Adventure

Like a little adventure in your trip?

Here are a couple activities I was able to fit in during my summer
 and fall trip of 2014

Sailing on the Han River For free. Yes Free.

This was a sponsored event through Korea Tourism that took place at the beautiful Seoul Marina Club near the Dangsan Station.

I would have not know about it or some of the other activities if it wasn't for an app called MeetUp.

Another adventure I took with a different MeetUp group was kayaking on the HongCheon River in the Gangwon Province.

We took a chartered bus for about an hour ride, had some instruction on the beach, kayaked and took a break for a local Korean style lunch at restaurant. Then kayaked and swam in the afternoon. All at a cost of $33,000 Won.

I have seen other meet up groups for parasailing, whitewater rafting, yoga, walking, hiking, language exchange, volunteering, etc.
So check it out where ever you go. You can meet some nice people.
and have some fun.

During one really hot day in Seoul we decided to go ice skating at the Mokdong Ice Rink. Very impressive multi level rink but Wow it was really cold, even though we were prepared with sweaters. It was so cold that when we left (20 minutes later) we were hypodermic out in the 80 degree weather, which was a strange sensation.
Along the way there was a Hyundai department store with the best food court I've ever seen. Along with a U-Plex (movie theater) and another large department store. A must stop if you are in the area.

Subway to Hyundia
EXIT 2 at Omokgyo Station(Line 5) directly connected through the moving walk to the 2nd basement level of Hyundai Department Store.
(ice rink is across the street and to the left if your back is to the main doors of department store.)

Mokdong Ice Rink is part of a huge sports complex. Address: 939, Anyangcheon-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Hours: Weekdays 2PM to 6PM / Weekends and National Holidays 12PM to 6PM.

Hiking Cheonggyesan Mountain

This fall we had a free afternoon and thought we would go for a leisurely hike up mount Cheonggyesan in Seongnam. Only 618 meters high, 2027 feet or about a 1/3 of a mile. The route we took was the main line up which included a wide dirt trail, slightly rocky at times and about 1,500 steps. Ouch! The way down we thought we would take a different path. Well we must have gotten off that path because our new way down was a bit of an adventure but all was good no broken bones and we arrived safely.

My favorite stair, #1009
